On Wednesday, August 28, 2016 at around 7:30 a.m., A motorcyclist from Nipomo was killed in crash on highway 101 in Carpinteria, California. The fatal accident involved a collision with two other vehicles. This incident occurred on Wednesday August 28, 2016 at 7:38 am.
The motorcyclist, Jacob David Franks, 29 years old, died due to the injuries he sustained in the collision.
According to the Santa Maria Times, Franks was traveling on a 2003 Suzuki motorcycle. Mr. Franks was between two lanes of northbound Highway 101, just south of Santa Monica Road before colliding into the left side of a 2003 Chevy Blazer. Juan C. Garcia, 43, of Ventura. Juan C. Garcia identified as the driver of the Chevy, was traveling in the right lane.
Franks veered into the left lane after crashing into the Chevy and collided into the rear of a 2015 Honda Civic. Deateria Dickinson, 54 of Port Hueneme was the driver of the Honda Civic. Franks was ejected off the motorcycle after the second collision and landed on the right shoulder of the highway. On-duty medical professionals pronounced Franks dead on the scene.
The California Highway Patrol stated that Franks was traveling at a high speed prior to the crash according to witnesses. Although there was one traffic fatality, the other involved parties were not injured. Whether drugs or alcohol was a contributing factor is unknown at this time.
Northbound Highway 101 was shut down near the scene of the accident for roughly an hour and a half.
