Los Angeles, CA (August 14, 2019) – A woman who was nine months pregnant was tragically struck and killed by a motor vehicle on Wednesday, August 14th. The victim, identified as 38-year-old Keisha Saravia, was attempting to walk across a street in the South Los Angeles area at the time.
Police responded to the scene at the intersection of Main Street and 117th Street, where Saravia was crossing the road near her residence. Exactly how the incident occurred has not been stated, but authorities confirmed that the driver involved fled the scene.
Emergency medical crews pronounced Saravia deceased at the scene. Anyone with any information is being asked to please contact the Los Angeles Police Department.
We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family of Keisha Saravia at this time.
Due to the extreme vulnerability of the victim at the time of impact, pedestrians are at a higher risk of suffering serious or even fatal injuries during an accident with a motor vehicle. In fact, pedestrian fatalities have been reported to make up 11% of all California motor vehicle accident deaths.
Unfortunately, fatal accidents can occur at any time, subsequently leaving loved ones with not only the pain and suffering of losing a family member but extremely high expenses as well. While it may be difficult, it is important for the bereaved family to understand that they likely have significant rights at this time.
