Long Beach, CA – Update: Identity of Woman Killed in Suspected DUI Crash on PCH, Released

Long Beach, CA (August 22, 2019) – The woman who was tragically killed in a car accident with a DUI driver on Sunday morning, August 18, has been identified as 21-year-old Marilyn Araiza, of Cypress. The crash occurred along the Pacific Coast Highway near Grand Avenue in Long Beach.

Authorities confirmed that Araiza was a passenger in a 1999 Lincoln Town Car operated by a man identified as Osvaldo Ramirez-Vasquez. Ramirez-Vasquez was traveling at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the passenger side of a 2014 Cadillac XTS.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene where they had to extricate Araiza from the wreckage. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Ramirez-Vasquez sustained only minor injuries.

The driver of the Cadillac, identified only as a 49-year-old resident of Garden Grove, was transported to a nearby hospital and treated for minor injuries. Ramirez-Vasquez was later determined to be intoxicated at the time of the crash and was subsequently charged with vehicular manslaughter and DWI.

An investigation into the incident continues.

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of Marilyn Araiza at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family in hopes of a full recovery.
