Lake Los Angeles, CA – Child Killed & 4 Injured in Collision on Avenue O

Lake Los Angeles, CA (October 9, 2019) – A five-year-old girl was killed in a collision with a suspected DUI driver that also left four members of her family injured. The fatal crash happened at around 8:50 p.m. on Tuesday night, October 8th, along Avenue O in Lake Los Angeles.

According to the California Highway Patrol, 61-year-old George Kokoteev was traveling on Avenue O in a 2006 Nissan Xterra SUV when he drifted into the opposite lane. Kokoteevs’ SUV subsequently collided head-on with a 2016 Nissan Altima operated by 26-year-old Tijera Taylor, of Palmdale. Taylor was driving with her family, identified as Kion Phylow, 27, as well as three children, ages five, three, and one.

Responders were dispatched to the scene where the five-year-old girl was pronounced deceased. Taylor, Phylow, and the other two children were transported to a local hospital to be treated for moderate injuries.

Kokoteev, who has now been arrested on suspicion of drunk driving, was also hospitalized after the crash. The investigation is ongoing.

We would like to offer our condolences to the family of the victim at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of their full recoveries.

Fatal Head-on Collisions in California

In California, 9.1 people per 100,000 were reported to have lost their lives in a California motor vehicle accident in 2017. While the numbers will always fluctuate to some degree or another, people will likely tragically continue to suffer catastrophic or fatal injuries as the result of a sudden accident. While it can be tremendously difficult, it is important to understand your rights in the event that you have found yourself suffering at the hands of another driver’s negligence.

Many victims and their loved ones will opt to file a claim for financial recompense because of the extremely high costs that commonly follow a sudden accident. At The May Firm, we will work with you to ensure your rights and give you the peace of mind needed to focus on the path ahead.

We believe that anyone who has operated a vehicle in a negligent manner, which resulted in the injuries or death of another person, should be held accountable for their actions. If you have lost a loved one or suffered an injury as the result of another person’s negligence or blatantly reckless and criminal behavior, please call us at (844) 629-3476 or leave us a message to receive a free consultation with one of our compassionate attorneys today.
