Huntington Beach, CA (January 2, 2020) – An alleged DUI driver crashed into a vehicle at the intersection of Gothard Street and Cedar Drive in Huntington Beach, subsequently resulting in fatal injuries to one of its occupants. The deadly accident happened at around 9:25 p.m. on Wednesday night, January 1st.
Police officials stated that a 17-year-old male from Westminster entered the intersection in a 2013 Nissan Rogue where he collided with a 2016 Kia Soul. The Kia was occupied by a driver and front-seat passenger, as well as a woman in the back seat at the time of the collision. Responding paramedics immediately transported the woman to UCI Medical Center in Orange where she tragically succumbed to her injuries.
Both the driver and front-seat passenger sustained at least minor injuries and the teen driver of the Nissan was suspected of DUI. No charges have been confirmed at this time as the investigation continues.
In the state of California, 9.1 people per 100,000 were found to have tragically lost their lives during a California motor vehicle accident in 2017. While these numbers may always fluctuate to some degree, people will likely continue to sustain catastrophic and even fatal injuries as the result of an unexpected crash. While it can be understandably difficult, it is important to know your rights in the event that you have suffered because of the reckless actions of another motorist.
