California’s Highway 17, which stretches between San Jose and Santa Cruz, can now officially stake the dubious claim of being the most dangerous road in the state. Recently, crashes along this roadway have reached a 10-year high. In 2015, there were a staggering 664 accidents along this 26.5 mile stretch of highway, and 2016 is on track to be even worse. This past January alone, there were 95 accidents – an incredible 200% increase from the same period last year.
There are a number of reasons why Highway 17 has become such as dangerous road. The uptick in commuters traveling to Silicon Valley has increased significantly in the past few years and the number of distracted driving accidents continues to be an epidemic nationwide. Other dangerous driving habits, such as speeding, reckless driving and road rage, are also becoming more commonplace on Highway 17, while unusually heavy rains have made for particularly dangerous driving conditions this past season. When you combine increased traffic with unsafe driving practices and road conditions, unfortunately more accidents occur.
Drivers who have been injured as a result of the unsafe driving practices of another party are entitled to compensation to help cover the cost of their medical bills, loss of wages, and pain and suffering. If you’ve been injured while traveling along Highway 17, contact The May Firm at 1.844.MAYFIRM today to consult with an experienced California car accident attorney.
