Glendale, CA – 13-Year-Old Critically Injured in DUI Car Crash on Verdugo

Glendale, CA (August 27, 2019) – A collision between a pedestrian and a DUI driver resulted in major injuries to a 13-year-old boy on Sunday night, August 25th. The incident was reported to have taken place on Verdugo Road, in the vicinity of Glorietta Park at approximately 8 p.m.

According to officers with the Los Angeles Police Department, the victim was walking in a marked crosswalk at the time of the incident. Witnesses stated that the boy had lights with him in order to alert drivers of his presence. One vehicle even honked at another to warn them but that driver still hit the pedestrian.

Emergency crews were summoned to the scene and the young victim was immediately transported to a nearby hospital. The driver of the vehicle involved was arrested shortly after the incident with a blood-alcohol level of 0.30%. That person has been charged with felony DUI.

Our thoughts are with the injured victim and his family at this time. We hope for a full recovery.

Pedestrian Accidents with Injuries in California

Since there is often very little to zero protection in place for a victim at the time of impact, pedestrians are at a much higher risk of suffering catastrophic or even fatal injuries following an accident with a motor vehicle. In fact, pedestrian accidents in California have been reported to make up 11% of all California motor vehicle accident deaths.

Unfortunately, fatal accidents can occur at any time, subsequently leaving loved ones with not only the pain and suffering of losing a family member but extremely high expenses as well. While it may be difficult, it is important for the bereaved family to understand that they likely have significant rights at this time.
