On March 04, 2016, a 18-wheeler crashes near Montecito, California. According to Santa Barbara’s Noozhawk around 4:30 AM, a big rig crashed in to a guard rail, causing vehicle to leak fuel. That crash happened on Highway 101 near Cabrillo Boulevard. According to Santa Barbara Fire Battalion Chief Mike de Ponce, the fuel was leaking from the 100-gallon tank on the passenger side of the truck. The fuel spilled across the two lanes, forcing emergency personnel to shut down the northbound freeway. Hazmat unit had to be called to the scene to place absorbent on the fuel to prevent it leaking further into the storm drains.

With lanes shut down, northbound traffic was being detoured at the Cabrillo Boulevard exit, until another vehicle crash shut down the detour at around 5:15 AM. The CHP are still investigating the cause of the big rig crash.
