Apple Valley, CA – Update: Police Identify Man Killed in Tractor-Trailer Crash on 15 Fwy

Apple Valley, CA (January 23, 2020) – Police have now identified one of the victims who was killed in a collision between two tractor-trailers on Sunday morning, January 19th. Michael Robert Keyser, 49, of Hesperia, was one of two people who tragically died in the crash on the I-15 Freeway near Hodge Road in Apple Valley.

According to police officials, Keyser was driving a 2015 Mazda 3 when he came across an overturned tractor-trailer in the southbound lanes of the freeway. Keyser exited his vehicle and proceeded to approach the truck to assist the driver when the vehicle was then struck by a second tractor-trailer. Both trucks burst into flames upon the impact of the second crash and Keyser as well as the driver of the overturned truck, were tragically killed.

Authorities stated that the second truck driver was transported to Loma Linda University Medical Center with undisclosed injuries. Officials with the California Highway Patrol continue to investigate this incident.

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the families of both Michael Robert Keyser and the other deceased victim. Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family in hopes of a full recovery.

Fatal Trucking Accidents in California

Trucking accidents in California, like anywhere else in the country, are repetitively triggered by factors such as incorrect weight distribution and speeding, among other reasons. When a trailer is inefficiently loaded, even a minimal shift in momentum can cause a terribly severe crash. Additionally, the downright large size and power of semis often increase the gravity of injuries suffered in a collision, often resulting in death.
